The History of GPWN

Devi-Vonette-1Dr. Vonette Bright, co-founder of Campus Crusade for Christ, International, had a long-time burden for pastors’ wives. By 2002 she was increasingly aware of the ways a Global Pastors’ Network could benefit pastors worldwide. Co-founders, Dr. Bill Bright (her husband) and Dr. James O. Davis had developed a network that trained pastors and provided them with access to an ever-increasing volume of professional resources. She was convinced there was a similar way to offer pastors’ wives the support and resources they need. The Brights, along with Dr. James O. Davis, founder of GPN, hosted a gathering of pastors’ wives and ministry leaders in their home in October of 2002.. Those who gathered around their table that day witnessed the birth of a dream. GPWN  became an official part of GPN.

In 2003, Dr. Lois Evans was elected president and she served with grace and strength in that role for three years. Under her leadership in January 2005, GPWN’s first International Conference, Free to Soar I, was held in West Palm Beach, Florida. More than 1,500 pastors’ wives gathered for the event. Dr. Evans helped the roots of GPWN go deep and in January of 2006 she passed the presidency to Becky Hunter. Becky Hunter continued to help GPWN evolve through the creation of the GPWN website, www.gpwn.org, and the second Free to Soar Conference, featured in TIME Magazine,  in 2007 in Orlando, FL. Becky continued to involve the board, a group of distinguished women including Kay Arthur and Carol Kent,  in growing Dr. Brights vision for GPWN.

In 2009, Vonette Bright and Becky Hunter, along with the The Global Pastors’ Network Board,  announced the appointment of Devi Titus as president of GPWN. Having been a Pastor's Wife for over 47 years, Devi desires to see GPWN expand and develop as a resource and prayer network for Pastors' Wives all over the world.

GPWN leaders have always desired to make GPWN a valuable resource to pastors’ wives around the world. In an effort to accomplish that goal we research resources, establish and encourage communities of peers, and offer international conferences for pastors’ wives. Our passion has always been to equip pastors’ wives to minister with enthusiasm in their marriages, homes, churches and communities. New resources are added to our website weekly, including links to additional quality websites and resources that can assist women married to pastors.
