Can It be August Already?!
By Becky Hunter
August.
Can it be August already?!
“Back to School” signs are dangling in the aisles of stores and my oldest granddaughter is preparing for life as a first grader, so yes, it’s already August. If you are a mom, a grandmother, a teacher, or a student yourself, you too must be seeing the signs that indicate another summer is melting away. And, frankly “no matter what stage of life or chosen profession” a pastor’s wife anticipates, with some trepidation, what is building behind these last days of summer: a fall schedule of church activities that can hit her family with tsunami force.
Knowing we will be inundated with the multitude of additional opportunities for ministry service that are soon to come our way, let’s think through, again, our gifts and callings and pray for wisdom to use them effectively in this season of our lives. Let’s really consider where and how to effectively invest our time and energy for Kingdom purposes.
When fall arrives, some of us, fearful of drowning, are going to be tempted to choose to stay too distant from our church family to be a blessing; others of us will nearly drown in our desire to meet countless needs of those we love and are called to serve; but let’s pray that most of us will dive in and connect, with our congregations and their outreaches, at the specific points where our personal intentional involvement can make the most difference for Christ. That’s the bravest way for us to serve and there is an incredible buoyancy that comes with having made such a prayed-through, discerning, choice.
Be strong. Take courage. Don’t be intimidated… your God, is striding ahead of you. He’s right there with you. He won’t let you down; he won’t leave you. - Deuteronomy 31:6 (The Message)
I’m praying for you and I hope you are praying for pastors’ wives everywhere, too, when you sit down in your worship service each weekend. |
